A Black Friday spin-to-win popup that earns its discounts
Every store discounts on Black Friday. A prize wheel makes the discount something a shopper wins, with an email in exchange, and lets you decide exactly how often each tier comes up. This page is the whole setup: a prize table with odds you can copy, the copy for each screen, the display rules and schedule for the weekend, and what to read in the report on Monday.
The Spin to Win theme live on a storefront. For Black Friday you keep the mechanics and recolour it: black background, one accent colour, your codes on the slices.
Why a wheel on Black Friday
The discount is expected. The spin is not.
A flat "20% off everything" banner costs 20% on every order and captures nothing. A wheel spreads the same budget across tiers, decides the odds for you, and asks for an email before it hands over the code.
Tiered discounts, an email each
Most slices carry the discount you would have given anyway; one or two carry the headline prize. A win asks for an email on the Post-Play screen before the Winning screen reveals the code, so every code you give out comes with a subscriber.
The whole weekend, on a schedule
Display rules take a start date and an end date in your time zone, plus weekday and hour windows. Set Friday 27 to Monday 30 November 2026 and the wheel opens itself on Friday morning and closes itself after Cyber Monday, without you being at a keyboard.
Odds you can afford
Each prize has its own win chance in percent, and whatever is left of 100% is the chance of a Try again. The roll happens on our server and the browser only animates to the result, so the 2% slice comes up 2% of the time no matter who is spinning.
The prize table
A Black Friday prize table you can copy
Five prizes and a leftover. Type the labels, codes and chances into the Prizes panel exactly like this, and the wheel draws itself, Try again slice included.

Why it is there
10% off
BF10
40%
The discount you were going to run anyway. Most spins land here.
15% off
BF15
25%
A visible step up that still leaves margin on full-price items.
Free shipping
BFSHIP
15%
Costs you a fixed amount, feels like a win on small baskets.
25% off
BF25
8%
The prize people mention to friends. Rare enough to protect margin.
40% off
BF40
2%
The headline slice. Two spins in a hundred, at a cost you can cap with a minimum basket on the code.
Try again
none
10% (leftover)
Drawn automatically as a grey slice because the prizes add up to 90%. It keeps the wheel honest and the wins worth having.
Read across the table and the arithmetic is plain: with these odds, every hundred spins hand out roughly forty 10% codes, twenty-five 15% codes, fifteen free-shipping codes, eight 25% codes and two 40% codes, and ten shoppers see the Losing screen. Change any percentage and the editor shows the new chance of not winning as you type.
The Prizes panel where the table above goes: a label, a reward code and a win chance per prize, and the chance of not winning computed for you.
Create the codes in your store first: Shopify Discounts, WooCommerce Marketing → Coupons, or Wix Marketing → Coupons. Give each one the same end date as the wheel and, for the 40% code, a minimum basket.
ChilliPopup never creates or applies codes: it reveals the code you pasted, and only inside a winning result. The configuration that reaches the browser has every code stripped out.
Want no losers? Raise the chances until they total 100%, or flip on equal chances. The Try again slice disappears and every spin wins something.
Want a bigger wheel? Sparse wheels are repeated so the disc always looks full, so five prizes already read as a proper wheel. Add slices only when each one means something.
Copy for the four screens
What each screen says
A wheel has four screens: Play, Post-Play, Winning and Losing. Each is its own canvas in the editor. Write {{prize_label}} and {{prize_code}} anywhere in the Post-Play or Winning copy and the won prize fills them in.
Play
Spin for your Black Friday deal
Headline: Black Friday starts with a spin.
Sub-line: One spin, one code, valid all weekend. Up to 40% off.
The disc itself is the button, so a hint like "Click the wheel to start" is all the instruction it needs.
Post-Play
You landed on {{prize_label}}
Headline: {{prize_label}} is yours.
Sub-line: Enter your email and we'll show your code right here. It's valid until Monday midnight.
One email field and one button. This screen only appears after a win, so nobody is asked for an email in exchange for nothing.
Winning
Your code is {{prize_code}}
Headline: Use {{prize_code}} at checkout for {{prize_label}}.
Sub-line: Add it to any order before Monday 30 November, 23:59.
Confetti is on by default here. Add a "Shop the sale" button pointing at your Black Friday collection.
Losing
Not this time
Headline: No prize on this spin, but the sale is still on.
Sub-line: Everything in the Black Friday collection is already reduced. Free shipping over $60 all weekend.
Send the shopper somewhere useful. A losing spin that ends on a dead end is the one part of a wheel people remember badly.
Display rules
Rules for a four-day weekend
A wheel carries the same display rules as every ChilliPopup popup: six triggers, targeting, frequency caps and a schedule. This is the set that fits Black Friday.
Schedule: start Friday 27 November 2026 at 00:00, end Monday 30 November at 23:59, in your time zone. Nothing to switch on or off by hand.
Triggers: exit intent for desktop shoppers who are leaving, and a time delay of about eight seconds so mobile shoppers, who have no cursor to leave with, see it too. The first trigger to fire opens the wheel.
Pages: one page-URL rule, doesn't contain /checkout, keeps it off the checkout, where a spin only interrupts someone already paying. Page rules are any-match: a campaign shows wherever at least one of its page rules is true, so use either contains rules for the pages you want or a single doesn't-contain rule, never both.
Frequency: once every 7 days, plus "hide from visitors who already claimed", so each shopper gets one spin and one code for the whole weekend.
Audience: everyone. Returning customers are the shoppers most likely to buy on Black Friday; this is not the weekend to exclude them.

How it works
Codes, wheel, rules: three steps
A wheel is a popup with a game on its Play step. If you have built a ChilliPopup popup before, you already know the editor.
1
Create the codes in your store
Make one discount code per prize (BF10, BF15, BFSHIP, BF25, BF40) in Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix or whatever runs your checkout. Set each to expire when the wheel does, and give the 40% code a minimum basket.
→
2
Build the wheel
Pick The Deal Is Right or Spin to Win, recolour it for Black Friday, type the prize table into the Prizes panel and write the four screens. Every block is drag-and-drop, and your own fonts are welcome.
→
3
Set the rules and publish
Enter the schedule, triggers, page rules and frequency above, then publish. If the ChilliPopup pixel is already on your site there is nothing else to install: the wheel appears on Friday morning on its own.
Design
Black on black, one accent, your codes
There is no dedicated Black Friday template, and you do not need one. Both wheel themes are fully editable, and the changes that make a wheel read as Black Friday take a few minutes.
Start from The Deal Is Right if most of your traffic is mobile: it is a portrait, mobile-first card. Start from Spin to Win for a landscape layout with the wheel on the left.
Recolour the popup background to near-black, keep one accent (your brand colour or a hot orange) for the rim, pointer and hub, and alternate the slices between the accent and a dark grey so the labels stay legible.
Put the top prize on the wheel: "UP TO 40% OFF" in the headline is what stops the scroll; the slices tell the truth about the odds.
A/B test one thing: one click creates a Variant B, you choose the split, every visitor sticks with their version and the results sit side by side with a confidence indicator. Test the headline prize (40% off vs free shipping on everything), or a five-slice wheel against an eight-slice one.
The same editor for all four games: Play, Post-Play, Winning and Losing are tabs, Prizes is a panel, and every colour, block and font is yours to change.
Monday morning
What to read when the weekend is over
A wheel gets two reports: the popup report every ChilliPopup campaign has, and a game report built from the server's own record of each play.
Opens against submissions: how many shoppers saw the wheel, how many spun and how many left an email. That is the conversion rate of the weekend's headline offer.
Claimed wins by prize: the chart shows whether the codes were actually claimed in the proportions the table predicted, and which tier drove the claims.
The claims table: each winner's email, prize, code, device and time. It lives in your dashboard; ChilliPopup does not send emails and has no Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, Zapier or CSV export connector today.
Redemptions are counted where the codes live, in your store's discount report. Matching them to the claims table tells you what the wheel cost and what it brought in.
The popup report every wheel gets. The game report adds spins, wins, losses and claimed wins by prize.
Does the wheel switch itself off after Black Friday?
Yes. Display rules take a start date and an end date in your time zone, so a wheel scheduled for 27 to 30 November 2026 opens for nobody on 1 December. You can also unpublish it by hand at any time, and a duplicate of the same campaign can carry the codes on into a Cyber Monday or December version.
Can I use my Shopify, WooCommerce or Wix discount codes as prizes?
Yes. Create each code in your store first (Shopify Discounts, WooCommerce Marketing → Coupons, Wix Marketing → Coupons) with the same expiry as the wheel's schedule, then paste it as the prize's reward code in the Prizes panel. ChilliPopup does not create codes in your store for you; it reveals the code you gave it, and only inside a winning result.
Can I make sure nobody leaves empty-handed on Black Friday?
Yes. Prizes whose win chances add up to 100%, or the "Give all prizes equal chances" toggle, mean every spin wins. Leave a leftover below 100% and the wheel grows a grey Try again slice for exactly that chance; the editor shows the chance of not winning as you type.
How do I stop the same shopper spinning until they hit the big prize?
Frequency rules limit the wheel to once a day, once per visit, once per session, or once every few days or visits, and a separate switch hides it from visitors who have already claimed a prize. For a four-day weekend, once every 7 days plus that switch gives each shopper one spin and one code.
Is there a Black Friday wheel template?
Not a dedicated one. The two wheel themes, The Deal Is Right and Spin to Win, are the starting points; you recolour the rim, pointer, hub and slices, swap the background and rewrite the copy on each screen in the editor. ChilliPopup's AI drafts popups, forms, surveys and quizzes from a sentence, but the four prize games start from their themes rather than from a prompt.
What does a Black Friday wheel cost to run?
The Free plan is $0 per month, forever, needs no credit card and includes all four prize games with the full editor, A/B testing and analytics; it covers 1,000 visitors a month on one domain. Pro is $29 per month and Business $79 per month, each with a 14-day free trial. A small "Powered by ChilliPopup" badge shows under the wheel on every plan. See the plans →
Build the wheel before the traffic arrives
Type in the prize table, write the four screens, set the dates, and publish. On Friday morning the wheel opens itself, the server decides every spin, and every code you give away comes with an email.
