Privy is one of the older names in ecommerce list growth — it has been around since 2011 — and it sells the whole loop: a popup captures the address, and the same account sends the email and the text message. Its homepage describes it as an email and SMS platform first, with popups as the list-growth engine underneath, and it claims more than 10,000 customers.
People still leave, and usually for one of four reasons. There is no free plan on the current pricing page — the entry point is a 15-day trial, then $24 a month for popups alone or $30 a month for email. The popup track is priced on page views, which is the least forgiving unit for a browsy store. The account grows on three meters at once (contacts, SMS credits, page views). And the on-site toolkit is narrower than the price suggests: one prize game, no surveys, and a contact sync built around Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix.
This guide compares the five alternatives worth the migration effort. Every price, cap and plan gate below was read off each vendor’s own pricing page in September 2026 — no repeated marketing copy, no numbers carried over from an older listicle. Where a vendor publishes nothing, we say so rather than guess.
Key takeaways
- ChilliPopup is the best value for the on-site layer: popups, lead-capture forms, multi-step surveys, quizzes and four prize games, with A/B testing and AI drafting on every plan, starting with a permanent free one for 1,000 visitors a month. It captures leads but does not send email or SMS, and its “Powered by” badge stays on every plan.
- Omnisend is the like-for-like swap if the email is the point: email, SMS, unlimited popups and a Wheel of Fortune in one account, with a real free plan (250 contacts, 500 emails a month) and Standard at $16/mo for 500 contacts.
- OptiMonk has the strongest free plan for popups: 10,000 pageviews a month with every feature unlocked, including gamification, surveys and A/B testing. You pay for traffic, not features, and the badge comes off at the $19/mo Essential tier.
- Poptin is the budget popup pick with an optional email track: $20/mo billed annually buys 10,000 visitors, unbranded popups, A/B testing and 70+ integrations, and 50,000 visitors costs $47 — against $84 for 50,000 page views on Privy.
- Justuno is the premium ecommerce option: $59/mo for 10,000 visitors and five live workflows, with gamification, quizzes, surveys, landing pages and A/B testing all in, plus a $299/mo Done-For-You plan if you want a team running it.
- Watch the unit, not the price: Privy and OptiMonk count page views, ChilliPopup, Poptin and Justuno count visitors, and Omnisend counts contacts. A 10,000-visitor store can burn 50,000 page views, so the same number means very different things.
The short version, side by side
Every figure below is the vendor’s own published price and allowance as of September 2026. Where a plan gates a feature, the tier that unlocks it is named rather than glossed over. Note that the traffic row is not one unit — read it carefully before you compare the numbers.

What is Privy?
Privy is an email and SMS marketing platform for small online stores, with popups and other on-site “displays” as the way you grow the list. It names Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, WooCommerce, Squarespace and Weebly as the platforms it works with, and its own description of itself is Shopify-first: the pitch is that the capture, the welcome email and the abandoned-cart text all come from one account with one support team.
What you get, according to the pricing page:
- On the Email track: email and SMS campaigns, automations, unlimited email sends, “advanced pop-up design and targeting”, segmentation, advanced reporting, email and live-chat support, and third-party integrations
- An optional SMS add-on priced in credits — one credit per SMS segment in the US and Canada, three per MMS, with unused credits rolling over
- On the Pop-ups & Displays only track: a template library, landing pages, embedded forms, A/B testing, Spin-to-Win, cart-saver and cross-sell popups, multi-step forms and quizzes, and exit-intent popups
- Collected contacts sync automatically to a Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix account
- A 15-day free trial with no credit card, free migration assistance, and month-to-month billing with no annual contract
It is a good fit for a small store that wants one bill and one login for capture and follow-up, and does not plan to run anything more elaborate than a discount popup and a welcome series. Where it runs out of road is when the on-site programme needs more formats than a popup and a wheel — or when the page-view meter starts to hurt.
Privy pricing at a glance
Privy publishes three ladders rather than three plans. There are no plan names such as “Starter” or “Growth” on the page — you pick a track, then a volume. All prices are monthly; no annual rate is shown.
| Track | Priced on | First steps (September 2026) | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pop-ups & Displays only | Monthly page views | $24 up to 10,000 · $48 up to 25,000 · $84 up to 50,000 · $168 up to 100,000 · $300 up to 200,000 · up to $1,500 at 3.5 million | Templates, landing pages, embedded forms, A/B testing, Spin-to-Win, cart savers, multi-step and quizzes, exit intent; contacts sync to Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix |
| Mailable contacts | $30 for 0–1,500 · $45 for 1,501–2,000 · $60 for 2,001–3,000 · $75 for 3,001–4,000 · up to $1,740 at 250,000; custom above that | Unlimited email sends, campaigns and automations, popups and displays included, segmentation, reporting, integrations | |
| SMS add-on | Credits | $0 with 250 free credits · up to $3,825 for 450,000 credits; credits roll over | SMS campaigns and automations; 1 credit per SMS segment, 3 per MMS (US and Canada) |
Read off Privy’s own pricing page in September 2026. Every Email or SMS plan includes pop-ups and displays, so the page-view ladder only applies if you buy the popups on their own.
Why look for a Privy alternative?
Nothing dramatic has happened to Privy — it is not shutting down. The reasons to look elsewhere are ordinary product and pricing reasons, and they tend to arrive at predictable moments.
1. There is no free plan, and the meter starts at $24
Privy’s pricing page lists a 15-day trial and then a bill. The cheapest way to keep a popup live is $24/mo on the pop-ups-only track; the cheapest way to send an email is $30/mo. Every other tool on this page either has a permanent free tier (ChilliPopup, Omnisend, OptiMonk, Poptin) or a lower paid floor, so a side project or a pre-launch store has somewhere cheaper to sit.
2. Page views are the wrong unit for a store
The popup track is metered in page views, and the ladder is steep: $24 for 10,000, $48 for 25,000, $84 for 50,000, $168 for 100,000. A shopper who browses eight product pages counts eight times. Compare 50,000 a month: $84 on Privy, $47/mo on Poptin (annual, and that is 50,000 visitors), $29/mo on ChilliPopup Pro (also visitors), or $69/mo on OptiMonk Growth for twice the page views.
3. Three meters, one invoice
Contacts for email, credits for SMS, page views for popups. Take the Email track and the page-view meter disappears — popups are included — but you now pay per mailable contact from $30 at 1,500 up to $75 at 4,000 and on up the ladder, plus SMS credits on top. It is worth modelling all three curves against next year’s numbers, not this year’s, before you put your list there.
4. One game, and the survey column is empty
Spin-to-Win is the only gamified format on the plan sheet. Multi-step forms and quizzes are listed; surveys are not. If this quarter’s plan includes a scratch card for Black Friday, an NPS survey after checkout, or a post-purchase “how did you hear about us” question, that is a second tool and a second script on the page.
5. The sync is built around three carts
Collected contacts sync automatically to Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix. Privy’s homepage also names WooCommerce, Squarespace and Weebly, but on the pricing page everything else goes through “3rd-party integrations”. If your storefront is on none of those, or you run a content site beside the store, check the integration list before you count on the automatic part.
The 5 best Privy alternatives
Ranked by how much you get for the money at the tier most people actually land on, not by how the pricing page is laid out. If email in the same tool is non-negotiable, read #2 first:

#1 ChilliPopup
ChilliPopup replaces the on-site half of Privy and widens it. It is a no-code builder for popups, lead-capture forms, multi-step surveys, quizzes and four prize games, all rendered on your site by one script tag — framework-free, asynchronous, no iframe — and all of them on the cheapest plan. Where Privy gives you a popup and a wheel, ChilliPopup gives you popups, forms, surveys, quizzes and four prize games, and lets the AI write the first draft.
Two things to know before you choose it, because they are exactly the things Privy does that ChilliPopup does not. It does not send email or SMS: leads and answers are read inside the dashboard, and there are no ESP or CRM connectors, no Zapier and no webhooks, so the follow-up happens in whatever tool you already use. And the “Powered by ChilliPopup” badge is on every plan, including Business — the free one too.
-
One editor, five content types
Popups, lead-capture forms, multi-step surveys, quizzes and prize games are built on the same canvas with the same blocks, styles and display rules, and shown as triggered overlays from the same script. Learn the popup editor and you already know how to build an NPS survey or a product quiz. Surveys and quizzes also get a hosted share page and embed modes, for when you want to send the link instead of waiting for the trigger.
-
Four prize games, not one wheel
A spin wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine, each with themed templates, per-prize odds and coupon codes. The winner is decided on the server, so nothing in the visitor’s browser can rig the outcome, and prize codes are never exposed before a win. Games use the same targeting and analytics as popups.
-
Write a sentence, get a draft
Describe the campaign — AI generation returns a popup, form, survey or quiz with copy, layout and colours in place, which you then edit like anything else. It is on every plan: 10 generations a day on Free, 50 on Pro, 200 on Business.
-
Six triggers and the audience rules that go with them
Exit intent, time delay, scroll depth, page-view count, click count and inactivity, plus device, page-URL, OS and browser, date-and-time and new-versus-returning rules, with frequency caps. The triggers guide covers which one to reach for; all of them are on every plan.
-
A/B testing on every content type
One click creates a Variant B, you choose the traffic split, visitors stick to their variant, and the results sit side by side with a confidence indicator. It is not reserved for a higher tier — see how to A/B test your popups.
-
Installs in one line, on any platform
One script tag, or an installer: a public WordPress plugin, a Shopify theme app embed, a Wix app, Google Tag Manager or plain HTML. Because there is no iframe, campaigns inherit your fonts and never box themselves in.
The ChilliPopup editor — the same canvas builds popups, forms, surveys, quizzes and prize games
Describe it, and the AI builds it
The usual starting point in a popup builder is a blank canvas or a template library to scroll through. ChilliPopup starts with a sentence. Type what you want at the top of the template gallery — “an exit-intent discount popup offering 20% off for an energy drink brand” — and the AI returns the whole campaign: layout, headline and copy, colours, fonts, the email field and the button. Forms, multi-step surveys and quizzes work the same way, each from its own prompt.
The draft opens in the normal drag-and-drop editor, so every block stays yours to change, and nothing goes live until you publish it. That is the main reason ChilliPopup is quick to learn: you correct a finished draft instead of assembling one from parts. The four prize games are the one exception — they start from themed templates, while the AI drafts the popups, forms and surveys around them.
Step 1: describe the campaign in a sentence, or tap one of the example briefs
Step 2: the draft comes back in the editor with layout, copy, colours and the email field in place
ChilliPopup pricing
ChilliPopup has three plans and one rule: the plan changes how much traffic, how many domains, how many seats and how many AI generations a day you get — never which content types you can build. Popups, forms, surveys, quizzes, all four prize games, A/B testing and analytics are on the free plan exactly as they are on the $79 one. The Free plan is free forever with no credit card; Pro and Business each add a 14-day free trial. Prices are monthly, in USD, as of September 2026.

#2 Omnisend
If the reason you chose Privy was that the popup, the welcome email and the abandoned-cart text all live in one account, Omnisend is the like-for-like replacement. It is an ecommerce email and SMS platform with unlimited popups and forms bolted on, a Wheel of Fortune game, and A/B testing on popup forms — and all of that, unusually, is on the free plan.
The free plan is real but small: 250 contacts and 500 emails a month, with a “Powered by Omnisend” badge on the newsletters. Standard is $16/mo at 500 contacts with 6,000 emails a month; Pro is $59/mo at 2,500 contacts with unlimited emails. Both scale with the size of your list, and SMS is charged separately on every plan. When we checked in September 2026 the page was showing a 30% promotional discount on those two figures; budget against the regular price.
Omnisend prices on contacts, not traffic, so the page-view anxiety goes away entirely — the trade is that a large list of people who rarely buy costs the same as a small list of people who do.
-
Email, SMS and popups in one bill
Campaigns and automations for email, SMS credits sold separately, and unlimited forms and popups on every plan. It is the closest structural match to Privy on this list, with a free tier Privy no longer has.
-
Wheel of Fortune and popup A/B testing, free plan included
The gamified signup form and the ability to test two versions of a popup form are not held back for a paid tier — the page lists both under Free.
-
Priced on your list, not your traffic
Free covers 250 contacts, Standard starts at 500 and Pro at 2,500; the price rises as you add contacts. No page-view or visitor counter anywhere.
-
Built for the cart platforms
Shopify and Shopify Plus, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, WordPress, Ecwid and Shoplazza are named on the pricing page.
-
The narrow bit is the on-site toolkit
Popups, forms and one wheel. Surveys, quizzes, landing pages and AI drafting are not on the plan sheet — if the on-site programme is the reason you are moving, Omnisend is not the fix for that.

#3 OptiMonk
If what you want from a Privy replacement is a free plan that is not a toy, OptiMonk is the one. Its free tier covers 10,000 pageviews a month on one domain with unlimited campaigns and — unusually — every feature: gamification, survey elements, A/B testing, product recommendations. The two things the free tier withholds are an unbranded campaign and a key account manager.
It is also the most ecommerce-native popup tool on this list. Cart-value targeting, stock-aware product recommendations, unique discount codes synced to the store and per-campaign revenue measurement are the sort of things you only build when your customers are stores, and they are on every plan.
Like Privy, OptiMonk counts pageviews. Unlike Privy, the ladder is gentler: Essential is $19/mo billed annually for 20,000, Growth is $69 for 100,000, Premium is $179 for 500,000. Privy charges $168 for 100,000 page views on its popups-only track — more than twice OptiMonk’s Growth tier for the same volume. Annual billing takes 25% off; each paid tier also offers larger pageview steps inside the same plan.
-
Every feature on every plan
OptiMonk prices on pageviews and domains only. The Free tier gets the same product as Premium — the difference is traffic, domains, the branding badge and whether you get a key account manager.
-
Built for ecommerce first
Dynamic product recommendations, stock monitoring, cart-value and cart-contents targeting, add-to-cart from the popup, automatic unique discount codes synced to your store, and revenue measured per campaign.
-
Three games and survey elements included
A lucky wheel, a pick-a-gift format and a scratch card ship as standard, and survey answers can drive survey-based targeting so an answer in one campaign changes what the next one shows.
-
Embedded content, not just overlays
Point-and-click placement drops campaigns inline on the page rather than over it, which matters on the parts of a store where an overlay would simply be in the way.
-
No email sending
OptiMonk pushes the captured address to your ESP and stops there. If the email track is why you are on Privy, pair OptiMonk with whatever you already send from — or look at Omnisend instead.
OptiMonk prices purely on pageviews — every plan gets every feature
OptiMonk pricing
OptiMonk’s pricing is the simplest on this list: pick your monthly pageview volume and your number of domains, and get every feature at every tier. The figures below are the annual rate as shown in September 2026; annual billing saves 25%. The catch is the slope — the jump from Essential to Growth is $19 to $69, and Premium is $179.

#4 Poptin
Poptin is the budget pick, and a sensible one. It is a popup and form builder with a real free tier (1,000 visitors a month, one domain, unlimited popups, branded), a $20/mo annual entry plan that removes the badge and covers 10,000 visitors, and — unusually at this price — A/B testing, gamified popups and 70-plus native integrations on every paid plan rather than two tiers up.
It also understands stores. Cart targeting, customer-tag targeting, login-status and order-history targeting are on the plan sheet, coupon codes sync into Shopify and Wix, and there is a separate “Emails & Poptins” track if you want campaigns and automations from the same dashboard — priced on contacts, and billed on top of the popup plan.
The limits are the content types. Popups, forms and coupons is the whole catalogue: no surveys, no quizzes, no AI drafting. And the popup track is single-domain until Pro at $47/mo annual.
-
Visitors, not page views
Poptin counts unique monthly visitors. Its Pro tier — 50,000 visitors, four domains — is $47/mo billed annually or $59 monthly, where Privy asks $84 for 50,000 page views, which a store will exhaust far sooner.
-
The interesting features are not gated
A/B testing, performance analytics, scheduled reports, gamified popups, autopilot triggers, Zapier and 70-plus native integrations are on Basic. What the higher tiers add is traffic, domains, sub-accounts and user management.
-
Store-aware targeting
Cart, customer tag, login status and order-history rules alongside the usual exit intent, time and scroll triggers, plus fixed and unique coupon codes synced to the store.
-
An email track if you want it
Campaigns, automations with conditional splits and segments live on the “Emails & Poptins” track, priced on contacts. It keeps the follow-up in the same login — and adds a second meter, exactly as Privy does.
-
Popups and forms is the ceiling
No NPS or CSAT surveys, no quiz builder, no AI generation on the plan sheet. If those are on your roadmap, ChilliPopup or Justuno cover them; Poptin does not.
Poptin’s pricing page opens on the “Emails & Poptins” track — the popup-only tiers (Free, Basic, Pro, Agency) sit behind the “Poptins” toggle

#5 Justuno
Justuno is the premium option here, and the one most likely to appear in the same Shopify shortlist as Privy. It calls itself a conversion platform rather than a popup tool: popups and exit offers, embedded experiences, landing pages, gamification with spin-to-win and scratch cards, quizzes and surveys, segmentation, and an AI layer (“Smart Timing”) that decides when to show things.
The price reflects that. Lite is $59/mo for up to 10,000 visitors and five live workflows, with one team seat, “all features” and white-glove onboarding; a Done-For-You plan is $299/mo for up to 20,000 visitors with a dedicated account manager, a Slack channel and AI product recommendations. Annual billing saves 10%. Larger volumes are priced on a slider rather than a table, so the pricing page does not publish a flat rate for, say, 100,000 visitors.
There is no free plan — a 14-day trial on Lite and 30 days on Done-For-You. And Justuno does not send: it captures email and SMS subscribers for your ESP and SMS provider to send to.
-
The widest on-site toolkit after ChilliPopup
Popups, exit offers, embedded experiences, landing pages, gamification, quizzes and surveys are all listed as features, with A/B testing across copy, creative, offers and triggers.
-
Segmentation and automation for stores
Real-time segments built from behaviour and profile data, journeys that branch by audience, and product recommendations — the AI-driven versions on the Done-For-You plan.
-
A services layer, if you want one
White-glove onboarding is in Lite; the $299 plan adds ongoing services, an account manager and a personal Slack channel. Privy’s equivalent is its free migration assistance.
-
Five live workflows on the entry tier
Lite caps how many campaigns can run at once at five. A store with a welcome popup, an exit offer, a cart saver, a wheel and a post-purchase survey has used them all.
-
The unpublished middle
Between 10,000 and 20,000 visitors the price jumps from $59 to $299 because the plans differ in service, not just traffic. Above that, the slider decides, so get the quote before you compare.
Justuno pricing
Two published plans, both month-to-month with no contract, both 10% cheaper on annual billing, as read in September 2026. Higher traffic volumes are priced on the page’s slider and are not published as a flat table — treat anything above 20,000 visitors as pricing published on request.

Which Privy alternative should you choose?
Privy is not a tool anyone needs to escape. If your store is on Shopify, your list is small, and one bill for popups, email and SMS is worth the page-view meter, staying put is a reasonable answer. The question is what you are actually paying for — and that is where the five above separate.
- If you have outgrown “a popup and a wheel”: ChilliPopup. Surveys, quizzes and four prize games are content types rather than upsells, every plan gets A/B testing and AI drafting, and the free plan covers your first 1,000 visitors a month. Accept that there is no email or SMS sending, no ESP connectors, and a badge on every plan.
- If the email and SMS are the point: Omnisend. It is the like-for-like replacement, priced on contacts instead of page views, with a real free plan and a wheel and popup A/B testing on every tier.
- If you want the best free plan for popups: OptiMonk. Ten thousand pageviews a month with every feature switched on is the most generous offer here, and the ecommerce targeting is a class above. Bring your own ESP.
- If budget is the deciding factor and you count visitors: Poptin — $20/mo annual for 10,000 visitors with A/B testing and games included, and an optional email track if you want the follow-up in the same login.
- If you want a conversion platform with a services team behind it: Justuno, provided $59/mo for 10,000 visitors and five live workflows fits, and you are happy to get a quote for anything bigger.
Whichever way you go, do the migration maths on your own numbers first. Take last month’s analytics, convert it into whatever unit the vendor counts — visitors, page views or contacts — and price the tier you would actually land on, not the one on the left of the pricing page. Then decide, separately, where the email will be sent from.

Start freeFrequently asked questions
Does Privy have a free plan?
Not on its current pricing page. As of September 2026 Privy offers a 15-day free trial with no credit card, and then the cheapest way to stay is $24/mo for the pop-ups-and-displays-only track or $30/mo for the email track. If a permanent free tier is what you need, ChilliPopup (1,000 visitors a month, every content type, branded), OptiMonk (10,000 pageviews a month, every feature, branded), Omnisend (250 contacts and 500 emails a month, popups and the Wheel of Fortune included) and Poptin (1,000 visitors a month, branded) all have one.
Which Privy alternative is cheapest?
For popups alone, ChilliPopup, which is free for 1,000 visitors a month with every content type, all four prize games, A/B testing and AI drafting included, and $29/mo for 50,000. If you want email in the same bill, Omnisend Standard at $16/mo covers 500 contacts and 6,000 emails a month. OptiMonk Essential is $19/mo billed annually for 20,000 pageviews. Privy’s own floor is $24/mo for popups only.
Which alternative keeps email and SMS in the same tool as the popups?
Omnisend is the like-for-like replacement: email campaigns, automations, SMS credits, popups, forms and a prize wheel in one account, priced on contacts. Poptin has an email track too, billed separately from its popup plans. ChilliPopup, OptiMonk and Justuno are on-site tools only: they capture the address and the sending happens in whatever ESP you already use. ChilliPopup in particular has no ESP connectors, Zapier or webhooks, so leads are read in its dashboard. See the popups and email marketing guide for how to run the two halves separately.
Do any of these alternatives offer more than a spin wheel?
Privy’s pricing page lists Spin-to-Win as its one game. ChilliPopup ships four — a spin wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine — on every plan, with the winner decided on the server. OptiMonk includes a lucky wheel, a scratch card and a pick-a-gift format on every plan including the free one. Justuno lists spin-to-win and scratch cards. Omnisend has a Wheel of Fortune and Poptin has gamified popups. The gamified popup ideas post covers when each format earns its place.
Why do the traffic limits look so different between these tools?
Because they meter different things. Privy and OptiMonk count pageviews; ChilliPopup, Poptin and Justuno count unique monthly visitors; Omnisend does not meter traffic at all and prices on the number of contacts in your list. A store where each visitor looks at five pages turns 10,000 visitors into 50,000 pageviews, so Privy’s $24 tier and ChilliPopup’s 1,000-visitor free tier are not describing the same site.
Which Privy alternative is best for a Shopify store?
If you want the cart to drive the campaigns, OptiMonk and Justuno are built around it, and Omnisend is the pick when the email and SMS programme is the point. ChilliPopup installs as a Shopify theme app embed and is the better fit when you want prize games, quizzes and surveys on every plan; see the Shopify install guide for the steps and the Shopify popup guide for what to build first. Poptin also installs on Shopify and syncs coupon codes into the store.
How hard is it to move off Privy?
The on-site part is easy: remove one app or script, add another. The work is elsewhere. Export your contact list from Privy before you cancel, decide where email and SMS will be sent from if your new tool does not do it, and rebuild each active display with its targeting rules, because exit intent, frequency caps and page rules behave slightly differently in every tool. Budget an afternoon per active campaign.
