Wheelio has a real claim to having started the whole category. It launched on the Shopify App Store in 2017 as the first gamified exit-intent popup, it has been the name people mean when they say “spin the wheel app” ever since, and it holds 4.6 out of 5 across 249 Shopify App Store reviews as of September 2026. The wheel works, the coupon lands in the cart, and the email goes to Klaviyo. That is the whole pitch, and it is a good one.
People still leave, and usually for one of four reasons: the allowance is counted in impressions, which a store with a popup on every page burns far faster than the headline number suggests; Wheelio is three games and nothing else, so a plain announcement bar, a lead form or a survey means a second app; it is built for Shopify first; and A/B testing, AI drafting and a free plan are not part of the offer.
This guide compares the five alternatives worth the migration effort. Every price, cap and plan gate below was read off each vendor’s own pricing page in September 2026 — no repeated marketing copy, no numbers carried over from an older listicle. Where a vendor publishes nothing, we say so rather than guessing.
Key takeaways
- ChilliPopup has the most games for the money: a spin wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine, with server-decided odds, on every plan, including a permanent free one — plus popups, forms, surveys, quizzes, A/B testing and AI drafting. It works on any website, not only Shopify. What it lacks is exactly what Wheelio is famous for: there is no Klaviyo or SMS hand-off, and the free plan covers 1,000 visitors, not 30,000 impressions.
- OptiMonk is the strongest free plan and the most Shopify-native pick: 10,000 pageviews a month with every feature unlocked — spin-to-win, pick-a-gift, scratch card, A/B testing, cart targeting. Paid plans start at $19/mo billed annually.
- Privy is the closest thing to “Wheelio plus the email tool”: Spin-to-Win and A/B testing in the $24/mo pop-ups-only option for 10,000 pageviews, and email plus SMS built in from $30/mo. Only one game, though, and prices climb steeply with pageviews.
- Poptin is the cheapest way to get three games and a free tier: spin the wheel, pick a gift and scratch card on a Free Forever plan for 1,000 visitors, then $20/mo billed annually ($25 monthly) for 10,000 visitors with A/B testing included.
- Justuno is the premium option: $59/mo for up to 10,000 visitors and five live workflows, spin-to-win and scratch cards included. Both plans are priced on a visitor slider, so Lite is $99 at 20,000 visitors and $199 at 50,000.
- Watch the unit, not the price: Wheelio counts impressions, ChilliPopup, Poptin and Justuno count unique visitors, OptiMonk and Privy count pageviews. Wheelio’s 30,000 and ChilliPopup’s 1,000 are not on the same scale, in either direction.
The short version, side by side

What is Wheelio?
Wheelio is a gamified lead-capture app for online stores, made by IT Trading d.o.o. and on the Shopify App Store since February 2017. A visitor is about to leave, a wheel slides in, they enter an email or phone number to spin it, they win a discount, and the code is injected into their checkout. The address goes straight to whatever email or SMS tool the store already runs.
What you get:
- Three games — Wheelio (the wheel), Rollie (a slot machine) and Scratchy (a scratch card)
- Capture of emails, phone numbers for SMS, Messenger opt-ins and push-notification subscribers
- Dynamic, single-use coupon codes injected into the checkout, with email validation and duplicate-entry prevention to stop repeat spins
- 39 integrations, including Klaviyo, Postscript, SMS Bump, Recart and PushOwl
- Exit-intent and timed triggers, mobile-optimised layouts, GDPR and TCPA consent options
- Six plans priced on monthly impressions, every plan with every feature, and a 7-day free trial
It is a good fit for a Shopify store whose list-building is centred on a wheel and whose email lives in Klaviyo. Where it runs out of road is when your on-site programme needs anything that is not a game.
Wheelio pricing
Wheelio publishes six tiers, all with the same feature set, stepped by how many times the game is shown each month. Prices below are from Wheelio’s own site as of September 2026; the Shopify App Store listing shows the same first four tiers, billed every 30 days in USD. There is no free plan and no annual discount.
| Plan | Price | Monthly impressions |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner (“Basic” on the App Store) | $14.92/mo | Up to 30,000 |
| Level 1 | $29.92/mo | Up to 60,000 |
| Level 2 | $54.92/mo | Up to 100,000 |
| Level 3 | $109.92/mo | Up to 250,000 |
| Level 4 | $192.92/mo | Up to 500,000 |
| The Big Guns | $249.92/mo | Up to 750,000 |
Why look for a Wheelio alternative?
Nothing has happened to Wheelio — it is still maintained, still well reviewed, and still the default answer on Shopify forums. The reasons to look elsewhere are ordinary product reasons, and they show up at fairly predictable moments.
1. Impressions are not visitors
Wheelio’s 30,000-impression Beginner plan sounds roomy next to tools that offer 1,000 or 10,000 of something. But an impression is one display of the game. A visitor who browses six product pages with the wheel set to appear on each one uses six of them; a returning visitor uses more. A store with 8,000 monthly visitors and a wheel on every page can be on Level 1 or Level 2 without its traffic having changed at all. Every tool below counts visitors or pageviews instead — not necessarily cheaper, but easier to forecast from your analytics.
2. It is a game, not a popup builder
Wheelio’s catalogue is Wheelio, Rollie and Scratchy. There is no plain announcement bar for a shipping deadline, no non-gamified newsletter form for the visitor who finds wheels tacky, no survey to ask why someone did not buy, no quiz. The moment your plan for the quarter includes any of those, you are installing a second app, paying a second bill and loading a second script.
3. Shopify first, everything else second
The listing, the billing, the coupon injection and the integrations all live in the Shopify ecosystem. Wheelio’s site does offer a version for other platforms, but if your store runs on WooCommerce, Wix, Webflow or a custom stack, you are not the customer the product was designed around — and the tools that are platform-agnostic by design will fit you better.
4. No A/B testing, no AI, no free plan
You cannot run two wheels against each other to find out whether “10% off” or “free shipping” earns more addresses. There is no way to draft a campaign from a sentence. And the trial is seven days, billed through Shopify, rather than a free tier you can leave running on a low-traffic site. None of these is fatal on its own; together they are why people start reading pages like this one.
The 5 best Wheelio alternatives
Ranked by how much you get for the money at the tier most stores actually land on, weighted towards what a Wheelio user is looking for — games first, then everything else:
- ChilliPopup
- OptiMonk
- Privy
- Poptin
- Justuno
#1 ChilliPopup
ChilliPopup takes the thing Wheelio does — a prize game that trades a discount for an email — and makes it one content type among five. There are four games rather than three: a spin wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine, each with themed templates, per-prize odds and a coupon code revealed on a win. And the same editor builds popups, lead-capture forms, multi-step surveys and quizzes, all shown from the same script tag with the same display rules.
The other difference is where the game is decided. ChilliPopup’s server picks the winning slice and only then sends the prize code to the browser, so nothing a visitor can do in developer tools changes the odds or reads the codes early. It is also not built around Shopify: one script tag, or a plugin for WordPress, Shopify or Wix, and it runs anywhere — the same four games on WooCommerce, Webflow or plain HTML.
Three things to know before you choose it. The free plan covers 1,000 monthly visitors, which is a different scale from Wheelio’s 30,000 impressions; a busy store lands on the $29 Pro plan. The “Powered by ChilliPopup” badge shows on every plan, the paid ones included. And ChilliPopup does not send email, SMS or push and has no Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Zapier or webhook connector — leads and answers are read in its dashboard. If the Klaviyo hand-off is the reason you bought Wheelio, weigh that honestly.
-
Four prize games, with server-decided odds
A spin-to-win wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine. Each has Play, Post-Play, Winning and Losing screens you edit separately, a prize list with a probability per prize, and coupon codes that stay on the server until someone actually wins.
-
One editor, five content types
Popups, lead-capture forms, multi-step surveys, quizzes and the four games share one drag-and-drop canvas, one block library and one set of display rules. Surveys and quizzes can also be shared as a hosted page. None of it is an upsell.
-
Write a sentence, get a draft
Describe the campaign — “an exit-intent popup offering 15% off to first-time skincare buyers” — and AI generation returns a finished popup, form, survey or quiz you then edit like anything else. The games themselves start from themed templates. It is on every plan: 10 generations a day on Free, 50 on Pro, 200 on Business.
-
Display rules that stop the nagging
Six triggers — exit intent, time delay, scroll depth, page-view count, click count and inactivity — plus device, page-URL, OS and browser, date-and-time and new-versus-returning rules, and frequency caps. The triggers guide covers which one to reach for.
-
A/B testing on every game
One click creates a Variant B, you choose the traffic split, visitors are stuck to their variant, and the results sit side by side with a confidence indicator. So the “10% off versus free shipping” question Wheelio cannot answer takes an afternoon here — see how to A/B test your popups.
-
Installs in one line, on any platform
One async script tag, or a plugin: Shopify, WordPress, Wix, Google Tag Manager or plain HTML. The renderer is framework-free with no iframe, so the wheel inherits your fonts and never boxes itself in.
ChilliPopup’s four games — the wheel, the claw machine, the scratch card and the slot machine — are on every plan
Describe it, and the AI builds it
The usual starting point in a popup builder is a blank canvas or a template library to scroll through. ChilliPopup starts with a sentence. Type what you want at the top of the template gallery — “an exit-intent discount popup offering 20% off for an energy drink brand” — and the AI returns the whole campaign: layout, headline and copy, colours, fonts, the email field and the button. Forms, multi-step surveys and quizzes work the same way, each from its own prompt.
The draft opens in the normal drag-and-drop editor, so every block stays yours to change, and nothing goes live until you publish it. Wheelio has no AI at all, so every wheel there starts from one of its templates. That is the main reason ChilliPopup is quick to learn: you correct a finished draft instead of assembling one from parts. The four prize games are the one exception — they start from themed templates, while the AI drafts the popups, forms and surveys around them.
Step 1: describe the campaign in a sentence, or tap one of the example briefs
Step 2: the draft comes back in the editor with layout, copy, colours and the email field in place
ChilliPopup pricing
ChilliPopup has three plans and one rule: the plan changes how much traffic, how many domains, how many seats and how many AI generations a day you get — never which content types you can build. All four games, popups, forms, surveys, quizzes, A/B testing and analytics are on the free plan exactly as they are on the $79 one. The Free plan is free forever with no credit card; Pro and Business each add a 14-day free trial. The “Powered by ChilliPopup” badge shows on every plan.

#2 OptiMonk
If you want to stay close to Wheelio’s world — a Shopify store, a wheel, a coupon in the cart, the email in your ESP — OptiMonk is the most natural move. It is the most ecommerce-native tool on this list: cart-value and cart-contents targeting, stock-aware product recommendations, automatic unique discount codes synced to the store, per-campaign revenue measurement, and Shopify customer tags set from survey answers.
It also has the best free plan here. Ten thousand pageviews a month on one domain with unlimited campaigns and, unusually, every feature: spin-to-win, pick-a-gift and scratch-card popups, survey elements, both kinds of A/B test, product recommendations. What the free tier does not include is the removal of the OptiMonk badge, or a key account manager — the features themselves are not held back.
The trade-off is the slope. Essential is $19/mo billed annually for 20,000 pageviews; Growth is $69 for 100,000; Premium is $179 for 500,000. Because pageviews are counted rather than visitors, a browsy catalogue site climbs that ladder faster than the numbers suggest — the same trap as Wheelio’s impressions, in a different unit.
-
Three games, on every plan including Free
Spin-to-win, pick-a-gift and scratch-card popups ship as standard. OptiMonk prices on pageviews and domains only, so the free tier gets the same games and the same targeting as the paid ones.
-
Built for ecommerce first
Dynamic product recommendations, most-popular-in-category, recently viewed products, stock monitoring, cart-value and cart-contents targeting, add-to-cart straight from the popup, and automatic unique discount codes synced to your store — the parts of Wheelio’s job that a generic popup tool does not do.
-
Revenue, not just conversions
Per-campaign revenue and average order value, so you can see what the wheel earned rather than how many people spun it.
-
Two kinds of A/B test
Variant testing inside a campaign and multi-campaign testing across whole tactics, both available on every plan including the free one.
-
Survey elements and embedded content
Survey questions inside campaigns can feed survey-based targeting so an answer in one campaign changes what the next one shows, and point-and-click placement drops campaigns inline on the page rather than over it.
OptiMonk pricing
OptiMonk’s pricing is the simplest on this list: pick your monthly pageview volume and your number of domains, and get every feature at every tier. The figures below are the annual rate as of September 2026; annual billing takes 25% off the monthly price. The catch is the slope — the jump from Essential to Growth is $19 to $69.

#3 Privy
Privy is what you pick if the part of Wheelio you liked was “the email ends up in my marketing tool” and you would rather the marketing tool were the same product. It is a Shopify-centric suite: popups and on-site displays, landing pages, and email plus SMS campaigns and automations, with captured contacts synced to Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix and Klaviyo.
The pricing page has two tracks. Pop-ups & Displays only is priced on pageviews and starts at $24/mo for 10,000, and it includes Spin-to-Win, exit intent and A/B testing. The Email + SMS track is priced on mailable contacts and starts at $30/mo for up to 1,500 contacts with unlimited email sends and 250 SMS credits included. Both come with a 15-day free trial and no card.
Two things to know. There is one game — a wheel — where Wheelio has three and ChilliPopup four. And the pop-ups-only ladder is steep: $48 at 25,000 pageviews, $84 at 50,000, $168 at 100,000, $300 at 200,000. A store that would sit on Wheelio’s $29.92 tier could easily be paying triple that here for the same traffic.
-
Spin-to-Win with A/B testing, on the cheapest plan
The wheel, exit intent and split testing are all in the $24 pop-ups-only option, so unlike Wheelio you can test the offer as well as show it.
-
Email and SMS in the same account
Campaigns, automations and advanced segmentation, with unlimited email sends on every Email + SMS plan and SMS credits that roll over to the next billing period. The hand-off Wheelio does through Klaviyo, Privy does internally.
-
Native store sync
Contacts flow automatically into Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix and into Klaviyo, which keeps the rest of your stack working if you only move the capture layer.
-
Landing pages and displays, not only overlays
Banners, bars, embedded displays and standalone landing pages sit alongside the popups, which covers the non-gamified announcements Wheelio cannot make.
-
Predictable but expensive scaling
Every pageview tier is published, all the way to $1,500/mo for 3.5 million pageviews. Nothing is hidden; it is simply priced for stores that make money from every visit.
Privy pricing
Privy publishes two ladders as of September 2026 and bills monthly; no annual discount is shown. The pop-ups-only ladder is the one to compare with Wheelio, and it climbs quickly: pick the tier that matches your actual monthly pageviews, not your visitors.
Pop-ups & Displays only
Up to 10,000 pageviews
- Pop-ups, displays, landing pages

#4 Poptin
Poptin is the cheapest way on this list to get three games and a free tier. Its gamified popups — spin the wheel, pick a gift and scratch card — sit inside a general popup and form builder with 40-plus templates, A/B testing, dynamic coupon codes and 70-plus integrations including Zapier and webhooks, so the Klaviyo hand-off you had with Wheelio survives the move.
The Free Forever plan covers 1,000 monthly visitors on one domain with unlimited poptins. Basic is $240 a year ($20/mo, or $25 billed monthly) for 10,000 visitors, still one domain; Pro is $564 a year ($47/mo, or $59 monthly) for 50,000 visitors and four domains; Agency is $1,140 a year ($95/mo, or $119 monthly) for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains.
Where it is narrower than the tools above: surveys and quizzes are not content types, the entry paid plan is a single domain, and Poptin’s email campaigns live on a separate, contact-priced track. Read it as “Wheelio’s three games, plus ordinary popups and forms, minus the Shopify depth”.
-
Three gamified formats
Spin the wheel, pick-a-gift and a scratch card, each with separate play, post-play and winning screens. They are templates inside the same builder as every other poptin.
-
A general-purpose builder
Lightbox, slide-in, bar and full-screen popups, email and contact forms, and a shareable standalone form link — the plain, non-gamified formats Wheelio does not have.
-
Coupons that sync to your store
Fixed and dynamic coupon codes created inside the popup, with a Shopify integration for stores and a generic script for everything else.
-
A/B testing and analytics included
Split tests and performance analytics are on the plan sheet rather than gated, which is more than Wheelio offers at any price.
-
Integrations that keep your stack intact
Seventy-plus native connectors plus Zapier and webhooks, so leads flow to Klaviyo, Mailchimp or wherever they went before.
Poptin pricing
Poptin’s popup track has four tiers priced on unique monthly visitors and domains, as of September 2026. The figures below are the annual rate with the monthly rate beside it. Email campaigns are a separate track priced on contacts, not shown here.

#5 Justuno
Justuno is the premium end of this list. It is a conversion platform for ecommerce rather than a popup app: gamified promotions — spin-to-win, scratch cards and other interactive formats — sit alongside targeting workflows, A/B testing, AI product recommendations and, on the top plan, a team that builds and runs the campaigns for you.
The pricing reflects that. Lite is $59/mo with no contract for up to 10,000 monthly visitors, five live workflows, white-glove onboarding and all features, with a 14-day free trial. Done-For-You is $299/mo for up to 20,000 visitors with unlimited workflows, ongoing services, a dedicated account manager, a personal Slack channel, AI custom product recommendations and a custom analytics dashboard, with a 30-day trial. Paying annually saves 10%. Both plans sit on a monthly-visitor slider, and Lite climbs with it: $99 at 20,000 visitors, $199 at 50,000, $299 at 100,000.
At four times Wheelio’s entry price for a third of the nominal allowance — in a different unit — Justuno only makes sense if you want the workflow engine and the service layer, not just the wheel.
-
Gamified promotions on every plan
Spin-to-win, scratch cards and other interactive formats that collect emails and phone numbers for your email and SMS lists. Lite is described as “all features”, so the games are not gated to the $299 tier.
-
Workflows, not just popups
Justuno thinks in live workflows — a targeting rule plus the promotions it shows — five of which are live at once on Lite and unlimited on Done-For-You.
-
A/B testing included
Test offers, designs and messaging side by side to see which earns more opt-ins — the feature Wheelio’s spec sheet does not list.
-
AI product recommendations on the top plan
Custom recommendations and a custom analytics dashboard arrive with Done-For-You at $299/mo, along with someone at Justuno to run it.
-
A service layer, if you want one
White-glove onboarding on Lite; ongoing services, a dedicated account manager and a personal Slack channel on Done-For-You. You are buying people as well as software.
Justuno pricing
Justuno publishes two plans, both priced on a monthly-visitor slider, both without contracts and both 10% cheaper billed annually. Lite is the self-serve plan; Done-For-You starts at the 20,000-visitor step. The figures below are what the slider showed in September 2026.

Which Wheelio alternative should you choose?
Wheelio is not a tool anyone needs to escape. If your store is on Shopify, a wheel is the whole job, and your impressions fit the Beginner plan, staying put is a reasonable answer. The question is what happens when you want a second format, a split test, or a site that is not Shopify — and that is where the five above separate.
- If you want more games and more than games: ChilliPopup. Four prize games with server-decided odds, plus popups, forms, surveys and quizzes, A/B testing and AI drafting on every plan, free to start, on any website. Accept that there is no Klaviyo or SMS hand-off, that the badge stays on every plan, and that the free plan covers 1,000 visitors.
- If you want to stay Shopify-native and start free: OptiMonk. Three games, cart-aware targeting and revenue measurement on a free plan for 10,000 pageviews, then $19/mo billed annually.
- If you want the wheel and the email tool in one bill: Privy, from $24/mo for pop-ups only or $30/mo with email and SMS — as long as one game is enough and your pageviews are modest.
- If you want Wheelio’s three games at the lowest price with a free tier: Poptin. Free for 1,000 visitors, $20/mo billed annually for 10,000, integrations intact — without surveys, quizzes or Shopify-grade cart targeting.
- If you want workflows and a team behind them: Justuno, from $59/mo, provided you are comfortable paying for the service layer and with how fast the slider climbs — Lite is $199 by 50,000 visitors.
Whichever way you go, do the migration maths on your own traffic first. Take last month’s analytics, convert it into whatever unit the vendor counts — impressions, visitors or pageviews — and price the tier you would actually land on, not the one on the left of the pricing page.

What is the best free alternative to Wheelio?
OptiMonk. Wheelio has no free plan, only a 7-day trial. OptiMonk’s free tier covers 10,000 pageviews a month on one domain with every feature unlocked, including spin-to-win, pick-a-gift and scratch-card popups and A/B testing. Poptin also has a Free Forever plan with gamified popups, but it stops at 1,000 monthly visitors. ChilliPopup has a free plan too, also capped at 1,000 monthly visitors, with all four of its games and every content type included. Privy and Justuno offer trials rather than free plans.
Which Wheelio alternative has the most prize games?
ChilliPopup, with four: a spin wheel, a scratch card, a slot machine and a claw machine, all on every plan, including a permanent free one. Wheelio itself has three (Wheelio, Rollie and Scratchy). OptiMonk and Poptin each have three (spin-to-win, pick-a-gift and scratch card), Justuno lists spin-to-win, scratch cards and other formats, and Privy has Spin-to-Win only. The gamified popup ideas guide covers when each game fits.
Which Wheelio alternative is cheapest?
ChilliPopup’s free plan costs nothing where Wheelio’s cheapest tier is $14.92, and it includes four games, popups, forms, surveys, quizzes, A/B testing and AI generation. But it covers 1,000 monthly visitors where Wheelio covers 30,000 impressions, so a busy store will land on the $29 Pro plan. OptiMonk’s Essential plan is $19/month billed annually for 20,000 pageviews, and Poptin’s Basic is $20/month billed annually for 10,000 visitors.
Can I keep my Klaviyo or SMS integration if I leave Wheelio?
It depends on where you go. Wheelio’s main strength is that it pushes emails, phone numbers, Messenger and push opt-ins straight into tools like Klaviyo, Postscript or SMS Bump. Privy has email and SMS built in and syncs contacts to Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix and Klaviyo; OptiMonk and Poptin push leads to your ESP through integrations; Justuno syncs to email, SMS and ecommerce tools. ChilliPopup does not send email or connect to an ESP: leads are read and managed in its dashboard, so if the Klaviyo hand-off is the reason you bought Wheelio, that is the piece to weigh before switching.
Why does Wheelio count impressions when other tools count visitors?
Because every vendor picks the unit that suits its model. An impression is one display of the game, so a visitor who sees the wheel on three pages uses three of Wheelio’s 30,000. ChilliPopup, Poptin and Justuno count unique monthly visitors regardless of how many times a campaign is shown; OptiMonk and Privy count pageviews across the whole site. Convert last month’s analytics into each unit before comparing prices, because the same number means very different things.
Does Wheelio work outside Shopify, and which alternative is best for WordPress or Wix?
Wheelio is built for Shopify first: the listing, the billing and the integrations live there, although its site also offers a version for other platforms. If your store runs on WordPress, WooCommerce, Wix, Webflow or plain HTML, ChilliPopup installs from one script tag or a WordPress, Shopify or Wix plugin and runs the same four games everywhere; OptiMonk and Poptin also work on any site. Privy syncs contacts to Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix.
How hard is it to migrate away from Wheelio?
Uninstalling the app is quick. The real work is rebuilding the wheel — prizes, odds, coupon codes and the winning and losing screens — and re-testing your display rules, because exit intent and frequency caps behave a little differently in every tool. Export your captured emails from your ESP first (that is where Wheelio sent them), rebuild one game, run it alongside the old one for a week, then switch. The spin wheel prize ideas guide is a good place to rethink the prize list while you are at it.
